(WTAQ-WLUK) — A Door County girl is using her birthday wish to make sure other kids in need can feel celebrated on their special day as well.
Katelyn Much, a first-grader at St. John Bosco, celebrated her 7th birthday by collecting supplies to build birthday cake kits.
The kits include a box cake mix, can of Sprite, frosting container, pack of birthday candles, festive napkins, a bag of balloons and disposable pan.
On Friday, Much’s 7th birthday, the kits were delivered to St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Sturgeon Bay.
The kits will go to children whose families do not have the resources to provide a birthday party.
“People do not think of it but we have a high homelessness rate here, a lot of people in need here. We are one in the Green Bay Diocese, our conference here is one of the busiest in the whole diocese so a lot of poverty in Door County,” explained Denis McCarthy, president of St. Vincent de Paul – St. Joseph’s Conference.
As a thank you, the church held a little party for Katelyn Friday.
This isn’t the first time Katelyn used her birthday to support others. Katelyn’s mom, Jenn, says when Katelyn turned five, she collected animal care supplies and toys for the Neenah Animal Shelter and Pawffee Shop Cat Cafe. On her sixth birthday, she collected new stuffed animals and donated them to the pediatric unit at Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin-Fox Valley.
After recently moving to Door County, Katelyn wanted to have an impact on her new community. She said she wanted to make kids happy.
