FOND DU LAC, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — One of the suspects charged after a man who overdosed on drugs was found dead, lying on a Ripon sidewalk, pleaded not guilty Friday.
Maison Springston, 17, is charged with being party to first-degree reckless homicide, hiding a corpse, and other charges for the April 7 incident.
No trial date was set, as prosecutors asked Friday to have the cases of several defendants handled by one court to be tried together, court records show. An April 5 motions hearing is scheduled.
Three others are also charged in connection with the death of the 18-year-old victim, who has not been named.
- Michael Manske, 22, faces four counts, including being party to first-degree reckless homicide. Currently, an April 9 plea hearing is set.
- Joseph Schmidt-Rehbein, 16, faces six counts, including being party to first-degree reckless homicide. A motion is pending on a defense request to have the case moved to juvenile court. He is scheduled to return to court April 16.
- Donavyn Mueller, 17, faces two counts, including being party to first-degree reckless homicide. He has a preliminary hearing April 4.
In Wisconsin, those between the ages of 10 and 16 are charged in adult court for some homicide-related counts. Although Schmidt-Rehbein’s case is currently in adult court, due to the pending reverse waiver hearing, the media has been ordered not to use his photo.
Additionally, Olivia Nordvold, 18, was charged with maintaining a drug trafficking place, although she is not charged in connection with the death itself. She has an April 15 plea hearing scheduled.
According to the criminal complaint, witness information led police to search the Scott Street residence where Manske and Nordvold lived.
“During the warrant, SRO Michels spoke with Olivia. Olivia stated that victim 1, Maison, and Joey came to her house. While at the house, Joey removed pill from his wallet, which Olivia believed to be Percocet, gave them to victim 1, and he, Maison, and Victim 1 snorted the drug through a rolled-up dollar bill. Olivia told Michels after Victim 1 did this, he started nodding off, and then his lips started turning blue and he started going unconscious. Olivia reported that they had a pulse oximeter, that they put on Victim 1’s finger and observed his pulse went from 115 to 41,” the complaint states. “During the warrant, Officer Watry spoke with Michael Manske, and he said that once Victim 1 started overdosing he told Maison and Joey to get him out of his house. Olivia said that Joey put Victim 1 over his shoulder and walked out the West door of the residence.”
The medical examiner listed bromazolam and fentanyl toxicity as the cause of death, according to the complaint.
