KENOSHA, WI (WTAQ) – The Kenosha County murder trial of former West Allis police officer Steven Zelich has been delayed until November 16th.
It was scheduled to begin a week from Monday — but the date was moved at a pre-trial hearing earlier Friday.
Zelich is charged with homicide and hiding a corpse in the death of 19-year-old Jenny Gamez in 2012. Authorities said the bodies of Gamez and 37-year-old Laura Simonson were found in suitcases tossed along a rural road near Lake Geneva. That’s where they were found last June.
The 53-year-old Zelich reportedly told officers the two women died from erotic asphyxiation or “breath play.”
Charges are still pending against Zelich in Rochester Minnesota, where Simonson died. He also has a status conference set for May 26th in Walworth County, where the suitcases were found. He’s charged there with two counts of hiding corpses.
