SHAWANO COUNTY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Shawano County authorities say their investigation into finding the person responsible for shooting a dog and leaving it for dead is at a standstill.
Last month, a dog, now named Atley, was found suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to its face alongside a road in Shawano County.
Since then, Atley has undergone multiple surgeries while law enforcement has tried to identify a suspect.
On Wednesday, the Shawano County Sheriff’s Office released a statement on social media, saying they unfortunately have not been able to make any further progress in the case:
The investigating deputy in this matter has put countless hours into working on this case. After diligently following up on every possible lead we could have, we unfortunately have not been able to make any further progress to solve this case. Between making physical contact and phone contacts, we have spoken to every party named and/or mentioned that may have been a possible suspect, or someone who knew any relevant information regarding this case. This unfortunately has not given us enough information to make an arrest. We have checked every nearby property attempting to find possible camera footage and trail cameras. There was very minimal information known when we were notified of this incident, which has made it very difficult to follow up on and develop any new leads.
The only known information is that the suspect was driving a red, Dodge pickup truck. An approximate year or license plate was not able to be obtained and was not known by the caller.
While we understand this update may be frustrating for some, please know that we have put a lot of time into trying to solve this case. It is not one that was taken lightly, and if new information is learned, we will continue to follow up and try our best to resolve this case.
As always, if you have any information regarding this case, please contact our dispatch at 715-526-3111. Any new information will be passed onto the investigating deputy who can then follow up with you. At this time, we will not be taking media requests regarding this case.
