TOWN OF LITTLE SUAMICO, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Two people are dead and a third was airlifted to the hospital as a result of two related crashes Tuesday morning on Highway 41/141.
Oconto County sheriff’s officials say they were called to the scene north of Brown Road just after 10 a.m. Deputies found a pickup truck in the median, facing south, resting against a cable barrier, with the driver unresponsive.
Before deputies arrived, a passing driver had stopped to help, parking his equipment truck on the shoulder of the northbound lane. While deputies and first responders were extracting the pickup truck driver and trying to save his life, a northbound van hit the parked equipment truck.
The driver of the original pickup truck, a 32-year-old Oconto man, died at the scene.
The driver of the van in the second crash, a 66-year-old Manitowoc man, also died at the scene. His passenger, a 73-year-old Manitowoc woman, was airlifted to the hospital.
The victims’ names were not released as the investigation continues.
