(WTAQ-WLUK) — Former Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers is already a four-time NFL MVP, a Super Bowl champion and widely considered one of the best QBs of all time. But could he soon add ‘vice presidential candidate’ to his list of accolades?
According to a report Tuesday by the New York Times, Robert F. Kennedy Jr. recently approached Rodgers, as well as former Minnesota governor and professional wrestler Jesse Ventura, about serving as his running mate on a 2024 independent presidential ticket.
NYT, citing two people familiar with the discussions, said both men “have welcomed the overtures.”
It is not clear if either has been formally offered the post, however, and Mr. Kennedy is still considering a shortlist of potential candidates, the people familiar with the discussions said.
Mr. Kennedy said that he had been speaking with Mr. Rodgers “pretty continuously” for the past month, and that he had been in touch with Mr. Ventura since the former governor introduced him at a campaign event last month in Arizona.
Last month, Kennedy posted a photo on social media of he and Rodgers hiking together.
In recent years, Rodgers has been increasingly outspoken on political and social issues, from COVID-19 vaccinations to controversies surrounding Jeffrey Epstein.
Rodgers is coming off a season-ending Achilles injury and expected to return to quarterback the New York Jets this fall, which coincides with the 2024 presidential election.
