NEW LONDON DUBLIN, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – St. Patrick’s Day got an early start in New London, er, New Dublin Monday.
This year’s New Dublin celebration began with the annual Leprechaun Day. A band of mischievous men in green from the Shamrock Club of New London changed the city’s entry signs to read “New Dublin.”
A new addition to the signposts this year is the recognition of Killaloe, Ireland, as New London’s sister city.
“It’s something that the city and the Shamrock Club have supported for a long time,” said Ryan Lanning of the New Dublin advertisement committee. “It’s just a way to celebrate our Irish heritage. It’s something to be proud of and network with another Irish community over in Ireland that’s very similar to New London.”
This is the 40th year of New Dublin week. The theme is “O’Lordy New Dublin Is Forty.”
A week of events culminates with the grand parade and Irish fest on Saturday.
