MADISON, WI (WTAQ) – It was a year ago on June 16th when a moderate tornado caused heavy damage at UW-Platteville.
Tuesday morning, the university released its final damage total of $18.6 million.
The twister was rated EF-2 on the National Weather Service scale of 0 to 5. It destroyed roofs, broke windows, downed trees, and bent light towers at Platteville’s football and track stadium.
Almost $14 million of the damage took place in three dormitories.
Bridgeway Commons had the most damage, with $7.3 million. Rountree Commons had almost $5 million in losses, and Southwest Hall had close to $2 million in damages. That last damage total also applied at Engineering Hall.
The stadium received $1.7 million in damage.
The campus plans to mark the tornado’s one-year anniversary with a gallery exhibit at Ullsvik Hall two weeks from Tuesday.
