RHINELANDER, Wis. (WXPR) — Northwoods residents and visitors looking for good broadband coverage now have a new tool at their disposal.
The State Broadband Office has launched an interactive map showing coverage speed throughout the state. Colter Sikora is the Broadband Mapping Coordinator for the State Broadband Office in Madison. Sikora says they hope people will use the map when relocating their homes and businesses. “The Wisconsin Telecommuter Speed Map as its titled is really a resource for folks who are interested in working from home, perhaps location-neutral businesses to see where internet access is strong enough in Wisconsin so that the potential will be there to do those work-from-home or even work-from-vacation-spot activities.”
The map is interactive—you can type in specific addresses and see providers who cover that area. The map of the Northwoods region shows that the fastest coverage is in town and city centers. The map is the result of 5 years’ worth of data collection and will be continually updated. Still Sikora recommends doing your own independent checking before making any major decisions.
