GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — An annual event in which health care professionals show off their musical talents for a good cause is making a difference in Northeast Wisconsin.
Doctors in Recital has raised more than $500,000 since 2006 for area nonprofits promoting health and wellness, music and art in the community. $54,500 was collected at this year’s show, held Jan. 27 at the Weidner Center in Green Bay.
On Monday, checks were presented to three local charities:
- $40,000 to Exceptional Equestrians
- $12,000 to Powered by Jazz ($3,000 each to Denmark Middle School, Green Bay East High School, Notre Dame Academy and Ashwaubenon High School)
- $2,500 to AVB Community Band
“We have been really fortunate to be doing this for many years, and we have made a comeback since COVID and have been able to reach so many area nonprofits,” said Kim Shefchik, a physician assistant and board chair for Doctors in Recital.
The importance involves bringing together nonprofits and health care — and not just one health care organization, but we have people from all of our big systems in Northeast Wisconsin. You will never find an event like that that brings competitors together to do something to create common good in a way that is a variety show. There’s nothing like it in our area and we’re just really fortunate to be able to continue to do that work.
Grant applications are open on the Doctors in Recital website for nonprofits hoping to be a 2025 recipient.
