(WTAQ-WLUK) – Work on expanding I-41 between De Pere and Appleton will start next month, the state Dept. of Transportation said Monday.
The project will add a lane in each direction, moving from a total of four lanes to six. Work this year will also include finalizing design, soil boring, utility relocation, and real estate acquisition.
“Construction is ready to go, probably starting April 1,” said Scott Ebel, the corridor design project manager.
Four lanes of traffic will remain open during peak hours. Work will begin near Highway 15 and Capitol Drive, with work later on near County N and the Rose Hill Road overpass, said Bryan Learst, construction project manager.
The DOT presented options for noise barriers in nearly a dozen locations along the project, and the response has been overwhelming in favor of adding them, Ebel said.
Work is expected to take four years.
