FOND DU LAC COUNTY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — A Green Bay man was arrested after a nearly 13-mile chase along Interstate 41 in Fond du Lac County.
Sheriff’s officials say the chase began just before 2:15 a.m. when a deputy tried to pull over a speeding vehicle headed north in the area of Highway 151. The vehicle sped up, got off at Hickory Street but then immediately got back onto I-41. The driver then appeared to be exiting at Johnson Street, but did not.
Meanwhile, other deputies set up a tire deflation device near Townline Road. The driver eluded the device, although a sheriff’s office squad vehicle and a semi received flat tires.
The speeding vehicle eventually exited at Highway N in the town of Eldorado. The vehicle did not stop for a stop sign at the end of the ramp, hit the raised median and went into the north ditch. With the vehicle disabled, the driver got out and ran. He was caught after a brief chase.
The 22-year-old man was on probation for fleeing and eluding offices. He also had prior convictions for disorderly conduct and operating without a valid license. Deputies say they found illegal drug contraband in the vehicle.
Sheriff’s officials are recommending the man be charged with a vehicle operator fleeing and eluding officers, second-degree recklessly endangering safety and operating a motor vehicle with a restricted controlled substance. He was also issued several traffic tickets.
The sheriff’s office did not release the man’s name.
