MILWAUKEE (WTAQ) – It might be a while before we learn how a 20-year-old runner collapsed and died at the end of a half marathon in Milwaukee.
The county medical examiner’s office says it will further study Jon Derynda’s heart before a final cause of death is determined.
An autopsy was performed Monday on the Oconomowoc man, who collapsed right after he finished Milwaukee’s Summerfest Rock ‘N Sole half marathon on Saturday.
Derynda was a student at UW-Oshkosh. His father told the medical examiner that Jon looked exhausted at the 12-mile mark — and the runner told him, “Dad, I’m dying.”
He died later at a hospital.
