GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — A Green Bay Packers player helped deliver a surprise to a Green Bay elementary school.
Running back AJ Dillon and U.S. Cellular awarded King Elementary School with a $20,000 technology makeover after it won this year’s Leap for Learning.
In September, U.S. Cellular and the Packers invited school administrators and parents across the state to nominate a K-12 school to receive new technology that supports STEM education. King Elementary was ultimately chosen.
Dillon says the latest technology is an important piece of getting the best education. Education has always been important to Dillon, with his mom being a principal and at one point, his own sixth grade teacher.
“Education’s big and I’m a firm believer in inspiring the youth through football but also making sure that they have the tools in front of them to succeed,” Dillon said. “It’s awesome to come into a place like this, see the energy, see these kids love the environment, love their teachers, they’re cheering their teachers’ names, they’re clapping about more money for education and that’s really awesome.”
Before the ceremony, the students received Packers swag bags and later on, Dillon signed autographs and gave away items for the kids.
U.S. Cellular also donated 300 copies of Dillon’s children’s book, “Quadzilla Finds his Footing’ to libraries across the state.
