Sturgeon speared on Lake Winnebago near Pipe, February 14, 2023 . PC: Fox 11 Online
(WTAQ-WLUK) — As the temperature rose and continued to degrade ice conditions Tuesday, the number of sturgeon speared on the Winnebago system fell.
The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources says only eight fish were registered Tuesday. Five of those, all males, were from Lake Winnebago. Two juvenile females and one adult female were speared on upriver lakes Poygan, Winneconne and Butte des Morts.

The largest sturgeon of the day was the 63.8-inch, 66.5-pound male speared by Bruce Rogers on Lake Winnebago.
With five days left in the season, spearers are less than 40% of the way toward harvest caps in any category.
For Wednesday, the DNR says the Poygan, Neenah, Stockbridge and Quinney registration stations will remain closed.
