Frank Calvert (Oconto Co. Jail)
OCONTO, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – Oconto City Attorney Frank Calvert pleaded not guilty Tuesday to charges he recklessly fired his shotgun on Thanksgiving Day while target practicing.
Calvert also waived a preliminary hearing on the two counts of first-degree recklessly endangering safety, court records show.
No trial date was set. He returns to court April 15 for a status conference.
According to the criminal complaint, an Oconto resident complained that a bullet came through the window of his residence. Police heard gun shots, and located Calvert in his backyard with an “AR-15 carbine style rifle.” One woman was struck by shattered glass and suffered wounds on her face. The caller was struck by the bullet in his shoulder, where he had a small burn.
Calvert showed the officers where he was shooting, his targets, weapon, and ammunition.
“Frank advised he had witnessed his rounds impacting the ground behind the targets and found it hard to believe a round had traveled far enough to strike a residence to the northeast. The orientation of the targets and the direction of fire from the patio was consistent with the trajectory a stray round would have had to travel to impact the residence at the original call address,” the complaint states.
