Adam L Richardson (Fond du Lac Co. Jail)
(WTAQ-WLUK) — A man was convicted in a drunk driving crash that killed two others in Fond du Lac County.
Adam L. Richardson, 39, was convicted of two counts of homicide by intoxicated use of a vehicle – with a prohibited alcohol concentration after pleading to the charges.
In the early morning hours of Feb. 26, 2022, a witness reported a single-vehicle crash in the area of Highway 151 at County Highway WH in the town of Taycheedah.
When a deputy arrived, it appeared a vehicle struck a tree and the vehicle was split in half.
According to the criminal complaint, a deputy said it, “appeared that the vehicle had been traveling at a very high speed, much faster than the posted speed limit of 55 mph.”
The deputy on scene said a man, later identified as Richardson, was standing outside the vehicle. The body of a man was found behind the driver’s and passenger’s seat, since the vehicle had been split in half. The second victim, a woman, was found in the rear cargo area. They were both pronounced deceased at the scene.
Richardson told the deputy the three were coming from a fundraiser where he had been drinking at, the criminal complaint says.
Richardson told the deputy one of the other victims was driving.
However, the complaint reads, “The driver’s seatbelt was extended in the locked out position, indicating that it had been buckled with someone in the seat at the time of the crash and then unbuckled after the crash.” And “Based on the condition of the vehicle and the manner of the crash, it appeared that the only seating position inside of the vehicle in which someone would have been able to survive without extensive injuries to multiple portions of their body would be the driver’s seat. The remote/key fob for the vehicle was located in A. RICHARDSON’s right front pants pocket.”
A sentencing date has been set for April 29.
Richardson faces a maximum possible sentence of 30 years of initial confinement and 20 years of extended supervision.
