MILWAUKEE (WTAQ) – Wisconsin’s Harley-Davidson reports a smaller profit for its last quarter, amid lower foreign sales due to a stronger U.S. dollar.
The Milwaukee-based motorcycle legend had a net income of just under $300 million from April through June, down 15 percent from the same time a year ago.
Stockholder earnings fell from $1.62 a share last year to $1.44 this time. Still, that’s a nickel more than the $1.39 projected by analysts from Thomson Reuters.
Harley said the results were about what was expected. In April, the company reduced its motorcycle shipments to dealers to manage supply and demand.
Harley’s worldwide sales totaled almost 89,000 in the last quarter — down from over 90,200 at the same time in 2014. The firm said it didn’t help that foreign competitors lowered their prices.
