GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – The Green Bay Area Public School District is reviewing comments superintendent Dr. Claude Tiller Jr. made on an Atlanta radio program.
According to a social media post by WAOK-AM, Tiller was a guest Feb. 6 on a show, with the topic listed as “Navigating Educational Leadership: Insights from the First Black Superintendent of Green Bay Public Schools.” It also promoted the segment as “Prepare to be inspired by his journey, insights, and how he’s making a lasting impact in the education system.”
Tiller himself also promoted the appearance on his personal X page.
Ed Dorff, a former GBAPS school board member, spoke during the public comment period of Monday’s school board meeting.
“Last Friday, I was asked to come to the District Office to meet with the superintendent to discuss potential boundaries. It was a great meeting,” Dorff said. “I left after making another appointment to meet with him next week. I won’t be keeping that appointment.”
In his speech, Dorff said he listened to Tiller’s interview. He then repeated comments he alleged Tiller made during the commercial breaks. Dorff claimed Tiller’s comments allegedly criticized the Green Bay community and specific colleagues by name.
“These are things I all saw and heard,” Dorff said.
FOX 11 is not sharing Dorff’s specific comments because we are unable to verify what Tiller said. After searching for the recording, FOX 11 was unable to find it.
Tiller was not present at Monday’s school board meeting and the district did not provide a specific reason for his absence. FOX 11 has reached out to Tiller numerous times for comment regarding the radio show interview, but Tiller has not replied.
Attorney Geoffrey Lacy released this statement from the school board:
Board of Education members are aware of the Atlanta radio talk show interview with Superintendent, Dr. Claude Tiller, Jr.
We are currently working through some of the issues raised that warrant further review and discussion. Because this is in part a personnel issue, we are not able to make any additional comments at this time.
On Monday, the board made no reference to the video or the comments Dr. Tiller allegedly made.
Tiller started as the district’s leader in July 2023. Prior to that, he worked in Detroit.
