IRON RIVER, MI (WTAQ-WLUK) – One man was killed in an explosion Saturday night in Iron River, Michigan.
Deputies from the Iron County Sheriff’s Department and troopers from the Michigan State Police, Iron Mountain Post, were dispatched to an explosion at 820 Cayuga St. in the City of Iron River around 9:30 central time.
Upon arrival, officers found the residence mostly destroyed with debris scattered as far as three blocks away.
Several fire departments responded to the scene and searched for potential victims.
State troopers from neighboring posts along with MSP K9 units and the 8th District MSP Fire Investigator were also called to assist.
An 80-year-old man who just moved to into the home from Florida was confirmed dead.
Authorities do not suspect criminal activity at this time, the fire remains under investigation.
The Iron River City Police Deptartment is leading this investigation with assistance from the MSP Fire Investigator.
