WINNECONNE, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Authorities announced Monday that a dangerous mixture of fentanyl, carfentanil and heroin known by the street name “Pink Death” was seized in Winneconne for the first time.
According to the Winneconne Police Department, on Jan. 24 an anonymous tipster reported a male working at a local business appeared to be under the influence of drugs. The tipster offered part of the man’s name and the description of a vehicle he was suspected of driving.
Although the information provided by the tipster wasn’t exact, the investigating officer located a vehicle that partially matched the description and made contact with the suspect as he left his place of employment. Officials said record checks showed the suspect, a 33-year-old man from the Berlin area, was on probation for various drug charges. When the officer made contact with the suspect, he noticed signs of impairment.
Police say the suspect admitted to having needles on his person which he used for cocaine and fentanyl. A search discovered numerous used syringes, “including one loaded with 40cc of a pink liquid” which the suspect claimed was fentanyl.
While the encounter was occurring, the officer noticed the male was digging around the area of his buttocks. After being placed into handcuffs, a thorough search was conducted, and a suspicious bulge was felt inside buttocks area. The suspect claimed he had gone to the bathroom in his pants he was so nervous. The officer didn’t believe him, and after some encouragement, the suspect removed a glass jar from inside his buttocks. While the suspect was doing this, the officer noticed suspicious movements and was able to stop the suspect from disposing the contents of the jar. This contained more fentanyl but in rock form.
During a search of the suspect’s vehicle, a 22-year-old Neenah woman also on probation for drug charges was located. Officials found more used syringes, a tourniquet and a soda can containing fentanyl, “which was used for the mixing / diluting of the substance for intravenous use via the syringes.”
Police say the man took ownership of all the contraband and was arrested for his probation violations. Several drug charges will be forwarded to the Winnebago County District Attorney’s Office.
The substance later field tested positive for the presence of fentanyl and opioids which correlates to intel surrounding the substance known as “Pink”, which also goes by other street names such as “Pinky” and “Pink Death”. While our community has certainly seen various forms of fentanyl recently, this compound and seizure was the first ever in the Village of Winneconne Police Department’s history.
Officials thanked the tipster whose report triggered the investigation and encouraged residents to contact the Winneconne Police Department if they witness any suspicious activity or see a substance that looks like the one in the attached photo.
“We take these matters very seriously, especially around the use and possession of these dangerous drugs in our community. We want to ensure the citizenry is safe and free from very dangerous substances,” the police said.
Tipsters can remain anonymous and may be eligible for a reward.
