FOND DU LAC, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Police say a man was treated for burn injuries after he poured gasoline on himself and started a fire.
At approximately 4:45 p.m. Thursday, the City of Fond du Lac Police Department (FDLPD) was dispatched to the 300 block of N. Peters Avenue for a report of an individual soaking himself in gasoline.
Upon arrival, officers located a male — later identified as a 40-year-old Outagamie County resident — standing near what was believed to be a puddle of gasoline.
The male started a fire which spread to his lower extremities. A FDLPD Officer quickly grabbed the male by his arm and pulled him into a nearby snow bank. The FDLPD Officer then threw snow on the male and successfully extinguished the fire.
The man received medical care from the City of Fond du Lac Fire/Rescue before being transported by ambulance to SSM Health – St. Agnes Hospital, where he was treated for burn injuries.
FDLPD’s Community Response Social Worker has connected the man to support and services, according to police.
