TWO RIVERS, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — A K9 officer with the Two Rivers Police Department sustained minor injuries when he was struck by a car Sunday.
A news release from TRPD Monday said K9 Xanti was off duty when the incident occurred and it was immediately reported to the Manitowoc County Sheriff’s Office.
The driver of the vehicle was not hurt.
K9 Xanti was taken to the emergency veterinarian service, BluePearl, in Appleton for care following the incident. Fortunately, Xanti appears to only have suffered some minor abrasions and some soreness but has no internal injuries or broken bones.
Officials said Xanti will be closely monitored and have follow-up appointments with his local veterinarian.
TRPD said it is “investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident” and the Manitowoc County Sheriff’s Office “is investigating the accident.”
According to the TRPD website, Xanti is a three-year-old German Shepherd who specializes in narcotics, tracking and handler protection. His handler, Officer Andrew Lade, has been with the agency since 2017.
