MADISON, WI (Wisconsin Radio Network-WSAU) — Governor Evers is pulling Wisconsin National Guard troops from the Mexican border.
In an executive order filed on Monday, Evers stated that the 112 national guard troops stationed in Arizona border were being returned to Wisconsin. Evers says that the work of securing the border belongs to Customs and Border Patrol, not the military and that there’s no evidence to back up President Trump’s claims of a national security crisis on the southern border.
Evers had also said that Wisconsin may join the 16 other states suing the federal government over the emergency declaration. The Governor and Attorney General are monitoring whether any of the money redirected from the Pentagon’s budget was intended to be used in Wisconsin.
