GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) – Senator Tammy Baldwin is introducing legislation Thursday that would help combat the increasing prescription drug prices.
“We see little justification, if any, from the drug corporations.”
She says the Fair Drug Pricing Act will force communication and reasoning for prices to rise.
She says some of these prescriptions are going up in price and some are prescriptions that people rely heavily on.
“Insulin is probably the best example. People with diabetes rely on insulin every day and we have seen prices double and quadruple.”
The legislation has bi-partisan support.
“This Fair Drug Pricing Act would require a justification where a drug corporation wanting to raise the price on any prescription drug would have to make a filing.”
Baldwin says that would be done with the US Department of Health and Human Services 30 days before they increase the price of the prescription drugs.
The bill does not prohibit an increase in prices but it does give the taxpayers a notice that it is happening.
