GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — In Green Bay, fans are gearing up for the big game.
For more than 60 years, Green Bay and Minnesota have played each other in football, with the Packers holding a small edge in the win category. On Sunday night, there will be a lot on the line.
“It’s a pretty important game. It’s probably going to decide some playoff situations moving forward,” said Aaron O’Rourke, Stanley.
Aaron O’Rourke currently hails from Stanley, which is in the western part of the state. He says he’s familiar with the border battle with Minnesota.
“Actually more than we thought. We moved up here from Madison. And yeah, didn’t expect it but a lot of Vikings fans up there,” he said.
On Friday morning, he and his family toured Lambeau Field. He says the Vikings’ quarterback situation could help the Packers.
“I don’t know. They waited the last minute to decide to change their quarterback, so we’ll see. I know the guy, I think he’s a rookie. So probably don’t have a lot of tape on him. But hopefully we can shut them down,” said O’Rourke.
Packers fan Joe Schmidt agrees.
“I think they’re on their third-string quarterback. So I think that’s a chance for our defense to kind of maybe redeem themselves from the last few games, and get after him,” said Joe Schmidt, Little Chute.
Fans say it’s been a season of ups and downs. Both teams enter the contest at 7-8.
“I hope they’re going to win. I think it’s going to be a close game for sure. If our defense plays good, I think we’ll be okay. But if we show up like we have the last couple weeks, it’s going to be pretty tough,” said O’Rourke.
“I think the Packers pull it out. We’ll be at home watching for sure. It’s going to be great. New Year’s Eve. Can’t wait,” said Schmidt.
Kickoff in Minneapolis is Sunday at 7:20 p.m.
