MANITOWOC RAPIDS, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — One person died in a single-vehicle crash in Manitowoc County Thursday afternoon.
Just after 1:30 p.m., dispatchers received a report of a crash scene located under I-43 near the Manitowoc River within the township of Manitowoc Rapids.
Officials say a preliminary investigation shows a 2000 Chevrolet S-10 pickup truck was traveling northbound on I-43 when it “entered the median, struck the guardrail between the north and southbound lanes, and proceeded down the embankment. The truck came to rest along the south side of the Manitowoc River.”
The driver, a 56-year-old individual from Green Bay, was pronounced dead at the scene. Their name has not been released.
An investigation by the Manitowoc County Sheriff’s Office is ongoing. Anyone who witnessed the crash or has information regarding it is asked to contact Detective Michael Hermann at (920) 683-4215.
This marks the third fatal crash on I-43 in Manitowoc County in a four-day span.
Two women were killed and four other people were injured in a crash on Christmas Day. Additionally, a crash on Dec. 26 left a 19-year-old man dead.
