MADISON, WI (WTAQ) – The Wisconsin Department of Transportation says new Wisconsin licenses and ID cards will be the most secure in the country.
The DOT said the new cards are made of polycarbonate, and are laser-engraved to prevent fraud and identity theft.
In addition to the laser-engraved photo, cards will also feature a raised signature, date of birth, expiration date and ID number. It will also have ultraviolet ink that displays Wisconsin artwork on the front of the card.
Officials said the new cards will go out starting in late September. Residents do not need to change out their cards until their current license or ID expires.
