David Douglas Jr. of the Green Bay Phoenix was named the Horizon League Freshman of the Week after putting up a career high 15 points with five rebounds in GB’s 79-46 victory over MSOE last week. It’s the first weekly honor for a Phoenix player this season. Green Bay’s win puts their record at 6-7 on the year, 1-1 in Horizon League play and they’ll return to conference action this weekend with a pair of games at the Resch Center. The Phoenix will host Wright State Friday at 12:00 PM and then welcome Robert Morris to the Resch for a noon start on Sunday.
The Green Bay Phoenix women have received votes for the first time this season in the weekly Associated Press top 25 poll. Granted it’s only three votes but GB is off to an 8-3 start on the year, 1-0 in conference play and they return to the floor Saturday in a rematch of last year’s Horizon League tournament championship against Cleveland State, tipping off at 1:0o PM at the Kress Center. South Carolina is a unanimous number one in women’s basketball.
