GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — A man sentenced for stealing mail and committing identity theft is wanted after cutting off his electronic monitoring bracelet.
Derrell Edwards, 29, was sentenced to two years in jail in September after being convicted of identity theft.
Charges of escape and criminal damage to property — for cutting off the bracelet — were filed Dec. 7, and a warrant for his arrest was issued.
On Nov. 28, the Brown County Sheriff’s Dept. was notified of a “strap tamper” for Edwards’ bracelet. Several attempts were made to contact Edwards by phone and in person at his address. Police didn’t find him, but Edwards’ roommate found the bracelet and turned it over.
Edwards also faces charges in Manitowoc and Winnebago counties.
He was convicted in Manitowoc County and sentenced to six months in jail, but was allowed to serve it in Brown County, as he was already housed there at the time of the sentencing.
No trial date has been set in Winnebago County, where he was free on a signature bond.
