GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) — Local community members and families in the Green Bay Area Public School District will have the opportunity to share their feedback regarding two potential resources for the 6th-12th grade social studies curriculum during the district’s Social Studies Community Input night.
The input night will be held on Tuesday, December 19 beginning at 4 p.m. in room 248 of the District Office Building, located at 200 S. Broadway.
The two potential resources are textbook vendors Cengage and Traverse. Both vendors will be in attendance via Zoom to share a half an hour presentation geared towards families.
“Both of these resources align to the Wisconsin State Standards,” said Director of Curriculum Angie La Combe. “So we’re thinking about ‘what’s going to work great for our students so they want to be in our social studies classes and they want to learn social studies and think about it deeply?'”
La Combe noted that Cengage works with National Geographic, and Traverse works with the Smithsonian and offers more digital content.
The tentative schedule is as follows:
- 4:00-4:15 p.m. – Welcome and introduction to the curriculum cycle
- 4:15-4:45 p.m. – Cengage presentation via Zoom
- 4:45-5:00 p.m. – Break
- 5:00-5:30 p.m. – Traverse presentation via Zoom
- 5:30-5:45 p.m. – Input and questions
The goal of this event is to allow community members and district families to share their perspectives and help determine which of the two resources is most suitable for the 6th-12th grade social studies curriculum.

The recommended resource will be brought to the school board for a vote in either February or March. Changes in social studies curriculum would begin next school year.
