MILWAUKEE (WTAQ) – A wrongful death suit has been filed in one of Wisconsin’s most notorious domestic violence shooting sprees.
A daughter of Zina Haughton, 1 of 3 women killed at a Brookfield salon, is suing an online gun dealer which provided the weapon used by Zina’s estranged husband Radcliffe Haughton.
Police say the 45-year-old Haughton was able to buy the gun after a judge issued a restraining order that required him to give up any firearms under federal law.
Critics say Haughton went around the law by buying his .40-caliber handgun from a private outfit the day before the killings — and he did not need a waiting period or background check.
Authorities say he shot 7 women three years ago Wednesday at the Azana Salon and Spa in Brookfield. He then turned the gun on himself.
Governor Scott Walker and state lawmakers later cited the salon massacre as a reason to approve a series of new laws boosting resources to treat those with mental health issues.
