BROWN COUNTY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – With holiday decorations up, the first real snow of the season coated the landscape to wrap up the Thanksgiving holiday weekend.
You can’t escape winter here in Northeast Wisconsin.
For many children in the area, the fresh coating of snow, just days after Thanksgiving, is a welcomed sight.
“The snow is just all around fun and it gets super fluffy to jump in,” said Adam Andrews.
“I was very excited because I love snow and I barely get to see it,” said 8-year-old Jillian Birt.
Jillian grew up in Florida, and her family recently moved to Appleton.
While they aren’t used to the snow, they’ll take the Wisconsin cold over the Florida heat.
“You can’t like fix the heat. If you’re cold you put on layers,” said Jillian’s older sister Allison Dulanski.
Jillian’s family was celebrating her birthday, and were looking forward to some ice skating in the Titletown district.
Plenty of others were also excited to get on the ice.
“Ice skating is my favorite,” said 8-year-old Harlow Wood from Kewaunee.
“Tubing is probably my second. Ice skating is my first,” said 8-year-old Amelia Norden, who is from Luxemburg.
But, as the snow falls, that means the shovels have to come out.
Dean Dashnier, who lives in Green Bay, doesn’t mind the extra work.
He even helped clear his neighbors sidewalk.
“Yeah I thought I’d do it for him, I’m not sure if he’s home or not,” said Dashnier.
For the kids, shoveling can add to the fun.
“You can shovel it into your yard and then you can build stuff with it,” said Jillian.
An expected warm-up later this week could get rid of the accumulation within a few days, but more snow is most certainly in our future.
