GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — A registered sex offender has been sentenced to federal prison for child pornography.
William Bowers, 42, was sentenced to 15 years in prison after pleading guilty to one count of possession of child pornography.
Bowers previously served more than 18 years in state prison after being convicted in 2000 of two counts of second-degree sexual assault of a child in Waukesha County.
Prosecutors say in February 2020 — while Bowers was out on parole — probation and parole agents received a tip that there were sexually suggestive website bookmarked on Bowers’ computer. A search of his devices revealed Bowers was active on illicit websites in violation of his supervision and his sex offender registration. Further searches revealed child sexual abuse material on Bowers’ devices.
Bowers pleaded guilty in May 2023 following a series of legal motions and medical evaluations.
