MADISON, WI (Wisconsin Radio Network) – UW-Madison is asking for public input on two rooms at the Memorial Union that are named after alumni that had ties to the Ku Klux Klan KKK.
Meetings are planned Wednesday and Thursday to get comments from the public on what to do about the names of the rooms. They run noon to 1pm Wednesday in the Capitol View Room and 5 to 6:30pm Thursday in Old Madison East.
The rooms are the Porter Butts Gallery and Fredric March Play Circle. Butts and March participated in Ku Klux Klan-affiliated groups that were active in the Madison area in the 1920s.
Protests were raised last year after the deadly attacks at the protests in Charlottesville Virginia.
