(WNFL) – Four WIAA state football champions have been crowned.
Lodi took a 14-0 lead in the first quarter and never trailed in the 38-14 win over Luxemburg-Casco in the WIAA Division 4 state title game at Camp Randall Stadium in Madison on Thursday.
Lodi scored in the first quarter on a 67-yard pass from Mason Lane to Aiden Grosskopf and a 4-yard run by Lane.
Luxemburg-Casco closed to within 7 points on a 2-yard run by Andrew Klass before Lodi responded with a 19-yard touchdown pass to Gavin Sargeant from Lane.
Klass made it 21-14 on a 56-yard run.
Lodi then closed out the first half scoring with a Lane-to-Brady Puls 59-yard touchdown pass for a 28-14 lead.
In the third quarter, Kylar Clemens scored on a 74-yard run for Lodi.
Lodi’s Jacobo Castillo Rosales finished the scoring with a 23-yard field goal in the fourth quarter.
Lane finished with 100 yards rushing for Lodi while also completing 11-of-16 passes for 220 yards. Clemens carried the ball 18 times for 147 yards. Sargeant had 6 receptions for 74 yards.
Luxemburg-Casco was led by Max Ronsman who completed 13-of-26 passes for 163 yards. Klass rushed for 81 yards on 10 carries. Trace Schoenebeck caught 8 passes for 76 yards.
Lodi finished with 488 yards of offense.
Luxemburg-Casco had 283 yards on offense.
Division 5
Aquinas 32, Wrightstown 13
Aquinas scored 32 consecutive points to defeat Wrightstown 32-13 in the WIAA Division 5 title game at Camp Randall Stadium on Thursday.
Wrightstown jumped out to a 13-0 lead in the the first quarter on a 4-yard run by Aiden Humphreys and a 59-yard run by Trevor Vande Hey.
After that, it was all Aquinas.
The Ramblers got touchdown runs of 3 and 4 yards from Brady Lehnherr, a 9-yard run by David Malin and a 59-yard run by Kyle White.
Aquinas finished with 428 yards of offense including 375 yards on the ground.
Wrightstown had 257 yards of offense including 235 on the ground.
White finished with 240 yards rushing on 32 carries for Aquinas.
Vande Hey led Wrightstown with 140 yards rushing on 13 carries.
Division 6
Stratford 10, Darlington 7
Stratford won the WIAA Division 6 title in improbable fashion, defeating Darlington 10-7 on a no-time-left 32-yard field goal by Laurenz Plattner.
Stratford had the ball for the majority of the fourth quarter, taking the ball with 11:50 left in the period on their own 4-yard line.
The Tigers drove down to the about the 7-yard line with 23 seconds left with Plattner missing a potential game-winning field goal.
Darlington got the ball, fumbled the ball away after 3 plays with Stratford recovering and setting up the short winning drive to the field goal.
Darlington had taken a 7-0 lead in the second quarter on a 5-yard touchdown run by Reagan Jackson.
Stratford tied it with 8:05 left in the third quarter on Koehler Kilty’s 9-yard run.
It was a defense-dominant game with Stratford finishing with 195 yards of offense and Darlington managing just 98 yards of offense.
It is Stratford’s ninth state title in 11 appearances.
Division 7
Edgar 36, Black Hawk/Warren 6
Karter Butt rushed for 171 yards and scored 5 touchdowns to lead Edgar to a 36-6 win over Black Hawk/Warren in the WIAA Division 7 title game at Camp Randall Stadium in Madison.
Butt scored twice in the first quarter on runs of 42 and 4 yards, twice in the third quarter on runs of 29 and 20 yards and once in the fourth quarter on a run of 4 yards.
Butt’s 5 touchdowns is a new WIAA record for most rushing touchdowns scored by an individual in any game.
Black Hawk/Warren’s lone score came in the second quarter on a 5-yard pass from Eli Schliem to Lane Marty.
Edgar finished with 253 yards rushing and 256 yards of total offense.
Black Hawk/Warren rushed for 206 yards and finished with 233 yards.
Owe Seffrood led Black Hawk/Warren with 96 yards rushing on 17 carries. Marty added 65 yards rushing on 18 carries.
This was Edgar’s 14th trip to the WIAA state championship game with eight state titles.
This was Black Hawk/Warren’s second title game.
