APPLETON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — A welfare check early Thursday afternoon resulted in the Appleton Police Department deploying its Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) unit to secure a residence.
Shortly after 12 p.m., officers were called to a home in the 1300 block of South Riverdale Drive for a welfare check. Authorities say that after one victim safely exited the residence, information was gathered that a male inside the home was potentially armed and a perimeter was established in the area.
Based on the assessment of the information provided, additional interviews, and previous law enforcement contacts the S.W.A.T Team was deployed. Various resources include the K9, technology and negotiator teams were on scene and completed a safe methodical search of the residence.
Police say the male was not located inside the home and an investigation is ongoing.
