GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – For the city of Green Bay, the holiday season kicks off mid-November.
Downtown Green Bay Inc. and On Broadway Inc. launched their winter event season Wednesday, showcasing dozens of their events coming up.
Holiday events to add to your calendar are:
Christkindlmarket on Broadway – Fridays and Saturdays, starting Friday, Nov. 17 at Red Sculpture Park
Holiday Parade- Saturday Nov. 18 from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Jefferson, Cherry and Washington Streets
Small Business Saturday – Saturday, Nov. 25, shop sales and for unique gifts at Broadway, Downtown, Olde Main Street & Military Avenue District businesses.
Winter Wine & Beer Walks- On select Fridays in December.
Returning for its second season is the Christkindlmarket on Broadway. Organizers say the pilot year was a success and this year it has some new features.
After securing some grants, officials were able to build and add 11 wooden chalets for vendors and people can rent rooftop igloos overlooking the market. Each week will feature up to 20 different vendors.
People are also encouraged to check out other downtown businesses after shopping at the Christkindlmarket.
Discover Green Bay says unlike some areas of the U.S., Green Bay does not shut down just because it’s cold outside. During the fourth quarter of the year, the Green Bay area typically sees about 30-32% of total visitors come during the winter and holiday months.
These holiday events help draw in customers for small businesses.
“This holiday season is really critical to a number of small businesses across the area, across the country really, and so these events are important to the community at large but also really essential to these small businesses that are positively impacted,” said Genrich.
