FOND DU LAC, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Improperly discarded smoking materials caused a back porch fire at a Fond du Lac home Tuesday night.
Around 10:21 p.m., crews were called to 123 W. McWilliams Street.
Upon arrival, firefighters found smoke and flames coming from the wooden porch and surrounding groundcover on the east side of the structure.
The fire was quickly extinguished.
Fire damage was contained to the wooden porch and a portion of the exterior wall on the northeast corner of the structure.
All occupants got out safely and returned to the structure after the fire.
No one was hurt.
Firefighters determined improper discarded smoking materials into leaves surrounding the wooden porch caused the fire.
It’s important that smoking materials be fully extinguished and placed in an appropriate fire-proof receptacle.
