WASHINGTON D.C. (WTAQ) – With Veterans’ Day on Wednesday, a Wisconsin congressman alerts you to a place where you can hear thousands of veterans tell what it was like to serve.
La Crosse Democrat Ron Kind helped start the Veterans History Project 15 years ago. Now, it’s the world’s largest oral history collection, with more than 100,000 veterans’ stories preserved for future generations.
Kind says many of the stories are really inspring, as veterans share the camaraderie with their fellow service mates — and the obligation they felt not to let them down.
Kind says veterans and their family members can share their stories of serving in both war and peace time by contacting the Library of Congress or their congressional representatives.
