GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — First responders in Brown County joined forces Thursday to fulfill the wish of a young boy from Green Bay who is battling cancer.
According to a GoFundMe page, 12-year-old Gavyn was diagnosed with cancer in summer 2022. He has Stage 4 synovial sarcoma, which impacts the body’s muscles and ligaments.
In a Facebook post, the Brown County Sheriff’s Office explained that one of Gavyn’s dreams has always been to “ride in a cop car and catch bad guys.”
Because he couldn’t tag along on actual police calls, deputies and Green Bay Metro firefighters — with the help of Child Life specialists at St. Vincent Hospital — organized a police and fire parade outside Gavyn’s home in an effort to make his wish a reality.
Photos show the grinning 12-year-old boy riding in a squad car, sitting in a firetruck and posing for pictures with first responders and family members.
“WE’VE GOT YOUR BACK GAVYN AND ARE HERE TO SUPPORT YOU AND YOUR FAMILY!!” the Facebook post reads.
