HORTONVILLE, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — A year and a half after construction began, renovations are complete at two Hortonville Area School District buildings.
Updates were made to both Greenville Middle School and Hortonville High School, made possible by a $41.8 million referendum passed in April 2021.
The district offered community members a chance to see the renovated spaces during an open house at the high school Monday, which comprised of a welcome ceremony, a ribbon cutting and tours guided by high school students.
“It’s great to have them here, let them into our doors and just show them our appreciation for what they’ve done for us by letting us have this renovation,” said Tim Rietveld, Hortonville High School principal. “Showing that we’re good stewards of that money and put it into good use.”
Officials say the projects — which were completed on time and on budget — opened for use by students and staff at the start of the 2023-24 school year.
Features of the improvements made at Hortonville High School include:
- Construction of a two-story classroom addition in the academic wing
- Creation of new, larger mathematics classrooms
- Incorporation of group study and student collaboration spaces
- Relocation of administrative and student services areas to create secured building entry and improve student safety
- Construction of a wrestling room and renovation of existing room to multipurpose space
- Construction of new physical education locker rooms and renovations of existing locker rooms
- Expansion of parking lot
“Our student population keeps growing, which is a positive for us. Just having new spaces for them. I think part of it is just to see we’re taking care of them,” Rietveld explained. “We want them to be the best students they can be in the classroom and also athletically and in activities and clubs.”
