DE PERE, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) is hosting a public involvement meeting soliciting feedback on potential improvements on State Highway 32 in the city De Pere.
The proposed project is a reconstruction of 0.7 miles of WIS 32 (Main Avenue and Reid Street) between Third Street and Eighth Street, near the Claude Allouez Bridge.
The meeting is scheduled to take place from 5 to 6:30 p.m. on Oct. 26 at West De Pere Middle School, located at 1177 S. 9th Street. Attendees should use door #1 to enter the building.
After a brief PowerPoint presentation reviewing design refinements, attendees will be given the chance to ask questions and provide their input on the project in an open-house format.
According to an online summary of the project, the purpose of the improvements is to “restore the ride quality of the existing deteriorated pavement and upgrade other roadway deficiencies.”
Officials say locations in the project work zone have a Pavement Condition Index (PCI) — a measure of the roadway’s structural health — as low as 21 out of 100. Additionally, curb ramps are currently not ADA compliant.
Anticipated benefits of the project include smoother riding for motorists, less wear on vehicles, lower maintenance costs in the future and improved pedestrian accommodations.
However, WisDOT Northeast Region is in the process of investigating and developing possible alternatives for the proposed improvements, which are explained here.
Officials say public comments are welcome and appreciated.
