FOND DU LAC, WI(WTAQ-WLUK) — It bills itself as the newest and largest outdoor music garden in the area.
Fond du Lac City officials dedicated the new venue Monday morning.
“There’s a xylophone with a music book. The xylophone has different colors. You can play different songs, well-known nursery rhymes. And then there’s some drums and some chimes,” said Natalie Johnson, Music Garden Project Organizer.
There are seven different outdoor instruments in all. Natalie Johnson says the new Hamilton Park Music Garden is the result of her work to earn the Gold Award, the highest achievement in Girl Scouts.
“I had to go through my council, Manitou Council for Girl Scouts. I had to originally submit a proposal. They had to approve the proposal before I could actually start the project,” she said.
And on Monday morning, that project was officially complete. Fond du Lac City Manager Joe Moore says the downtown site is designed to attract children and families.
“It looks great. It’s one thing to see these things on paper, and really believe that it’s going to be a nice addition to the park. But then, when it all comes together, it’s just really great,” said Joe Moore, Fond Du Lac City Manager.
“You don’t have to be young to enjoy this, I’ll tell you. This is fun,” said one woman.
As people put the new music garden to use, Natalie Johnson says early reviews are positive.
“It’s done, yeah. It’s good. It’s exciting to actually see it here,” she said.
The project cost about $40,000. More improvements are expected in the spring, including a pavilion, and bathroom facilities.
A partnership between the City of Fond du Lac, and area businesses helped fund the initiative.
