FOND DU LAC, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Fond du Lac police officers say they will reassure residents of safety and security after a man and a K9 deputy were shot during a disturbance over the weekend.
Around 6 a.m. Saturday, authorities were called to the 500 block of Drury Place for an incident involving weapons.
Upon arrival, officers found a man inside the a vehicle and gunfire was exchanged between the man and a sheriff’s deputy.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene.
A K9 officer was also shot and remains in serious but stable condition after undergoing surgery at a veterinarian hospital.
The involved deputy has been placed on administrative leave, per agency policy.
No other members of the public or law enforcement were injured during the incident.
On Monday, police said they would be going door-to-door in the neighborhood where the incident occurred to meet with families.
“Community safety remains a priority and FDLPD remains committed to doing everything we can to ensure our residents feel safe in our city,” the statement read in part.
The Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) is leading the investigation.
