Not bad for a freshman. The 2023 WIAA Girls Division 1 individual tennis champion is freshman Karlie Schock of Bay Port High School. In an impressive run to the title, Schock, seeded number two, knocked off several highly seeded players including three seed Lexi Hankel, a Janesville Craig sophomore in the finals, 6-1, 6-0, becoming the first metro area player to capture an individual tennis championship. Olivia Minikel of Manitowc fell to Hankel in the semifinals but bounced back to take the third place match. The doubles team of Molly Jex and Lizzie Stuckslager of Divine Savior Holy Angels captured the D1 title. De Pere’s tandem of Ana Cristescu and Lilianna Graf wound up third.
It was a sweep for Milwaukee University School in Division 2. Angela Wang won the singles title and the doubles team of Isabel Werner and Mia Dorr took home the gold, beating Sophia Torke and Grace Vilwock of Kohler 6-4, 6-2 in the final.
