MENASHA, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – A Menasha police officer shot and killed a person authorities say was armed.
The Wisconsin Department of Justice’s Division of Criminal Investigation says police were called to a domestic dispute in the 1100 block of Geneva Road just after 3 p.m. Saturday. When officers arrived, they encountered a male who DCI says was armed with “bladed weapons.” One Menasha officer shot the male, Officers tried to give him first aid, but the male died at the scene.
Police from both Menasha and Fox Crossing were on scene. No officers were injured.
The officer who fired the fatal shot is on administrative leave, per department policy. The officer’s name was not released.
DCI is leading the investigation, with the help of the State Patrol, Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office and Neenah Police Department. State law requires an outside agency to investigate whenever law enforcement uses deadly force.
When the investigation is complete, the results will be forwarded to the Winnebago County District Attorney’s Office to determine whether the officer will face criminal charges.
