OUTAGAMIE COUNTY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Another sign of the season: Audible outdoor warning siren tests in Outagamie County are suspended until next spring.
The weekly tests at noon on Saturdays will be silent through the winter.
County emergency management officials say not turning on the audible sirens reduces maintenance costs related to snow and ice.
Audible tests are expected to resume in March, depending on the weather.
The county reminds people that sirens are intended for outdoor warning only and are not intended to be heard inside buildings. It’s recommended that people use NOAA weather radios or smartphone apps to receive severe weather alerts.
