TOWN OF BRILLION, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – A home built in 1887 has been added to the State Register of Historic Places.
The Gottlieb and Beata Stanelle farmhouse “is an excellent and intact example of Italianate residential design with a two-story main block and one-story side wing. Both sections are finished with clapboards or with composition wood siding that replicates the original. The house has many characteristics of the Italianate style: a square cupola crowns the main block, beveled square posts support the front porches, sidelights and transom windows frame the front door, and scrolled brackets support the broad eaves,” according to the Wisconsin Historical Society.
Johann Gottlieb Stanelle and Johanna Beata (Franzke) Stanelle were born in Silesia, then a part of Prussian Germany. They married in 1859, moved to the United States three years later, and to Brillion in 1865.
The State Register is Wisconsin’s official list of state properties determined to be significant to Wisconsin’s heritage. The State Historic Preservation Office at the Wisconsin Historical Society administers both the State Register and the National Register in Wisconsin.
