Brandon Woodruff continued his dominant recovery from his season long shoulder injury by locking down the Pittsburgh Pirates in the Milwaukee Brewers’ 7-3 victory at PNC Park Tuesday night. Woodruff allowed just two hits over seven scoreless innings while striking out six to pick up a badly needed win for the Crew. Milwaukee finally reached Pirate starter Andre Jackson with a run in the 4th inning, scoring on a double play groundout. The Brewer offense really came alive in the 5th when they erupted for six runs to blow the game open. Andruw Monasterio got the rally going with an RBI triple, he’d score on a Brice Turang roller up the third base line. Christian Yelich drove one in with a long sacrifice fly and Carlos Santana had an RBI double with Mark Canha bringing home another run. Andrew Chafin pitched a scoreless 8th but the Pirates avoided the shutout when Connor Jo took reliever Clayton Andrews deep for a three run homer in the bottom of the ninth. The Brewers improved to 77-61 but remained just two and a half games in front of the Chicago Cubs who rallied past the San Francisco Giants 11-8 at Wrigley Field. Freddy Peralta will start the rubber game of the series at PNC Park with pre-game coverage beginning at 11:00 AM with an 11:35 AM first pitch on WNFL.
